While we're always happy to accommodate different timelines, this window tends to provide the best overall experience for several reasons.

• By this point in your wedding planning, most of your major details have usually been finalized. Your dress, accessories, flowers, and overall aesthetic often feel much more settled, making it easier to choose a hairstyle and makeup look that complements everything beautifully.

• Your hair length and color are typically very close to what they'll be on the wedding day as well. If your skin tone changes throughout the year because of sun exposure or seasonal differences, it's also more likely to closely match what we'll be working with on your wedding.

• Scheduling your trial around this time also lets us see how your hair and makeup respond to weather conditions that are similar to those you'll likely experience on your wedding day, especially here in Middle Tennessee where humidity can make a noticeable difference.

Our bridal hair and makeup trials last approximately two hours.

That gives us plenty of time to move through the process without feeling rushed. During your appointment, we'll:

• Look at inspiration photos, if you've brought them

• Create your hair and makeup look

• Make adjustments together throughout the appointment

How to Prepare for Your Bridal Trial Run

Prepare Your Skin

Healthy, hydrated skin gives makeup the best possible canvas.

The night before your appointment, gently exfoliate and moisturize your skin well. If possible, arrive with a clean face. If you're coming directly from work or another appointment, don't worry—we're happy to remove your existing makeup and prep your skin before we begin.

If you use retinol or other active skincare ingredients, we recommend pausing them for at least five days before your trial, with seven to ten days being even better whenever possible.

Hair Prep (This Matters!)

Arriving with properly prepared hair helps us achieve the best possible result while avoiding unnecessary product buildup or excess oil.

For Everyone

• Arrive with clean, completely dry hair.

• Shampoo thoroughly, paying special attention to your scalp.

• Skip heavy smoothing products.

• Apply a lightweight volumizing mousse while your hair is damp.

Whenever possible, choose a top that's similar in color to what you'll be wearing on your wedding day. If your dress is white, ivory, champagne, or another light shade, wearing something similar during your trial gives you a much more accurate preview.

A neckline that's close to your wedding dress is helpful as well, since it allows you to see how your hairstyle and makeup work together with your overall look.

Inspiration Photos: Helpful, Not Required

Inspiration photos are always welcome—but they're never required.

Photos simply help us understand the overall feeling you're drawn toward. Rather than trying to recreate someone else's face exactly, we'll use those images as a starting point while considering your unique features, hair texture, skin type, comfort level, and personal style.

Our goal is never to make you look like someone else. Our goal is to create a look that feels beautifully and authentically like you.

Extensions, Wigs & Alternative Hair Needs

If you plan to wear extensions, a wig, or protective styling on your wedding day, we'd love to know ahead of time.

Our team has experience working with a wide variety of hair textures, natural curls and coils, protective styles, wigs, and extensions. Letting us know your plans in advance simply helps us prepare appropriately and ensures your appointment runs as smoothly as possible.

We don't provide or sell wigs or extensions, but we're absolutely happy to style them as part of your bridal look.

 

What to Avoid Right Before Your Trial

We recommend avoiding the following:

• Trying brand-new skincare products or treatments.

• Using retinol or other strong active ingredients within five to ten days of your appointment.

• Waxing the day before your trial. Instead, schedule waxing at least four days beforehand.

• Booking a spray tan less than two days before your appointment.

• Arriving with dirty hair. Freshly washed hair typically styles more beautifully and lasts longer.

After Your Trial: Wear-Test Your Look

If possible, plan something fun afterward. Many of our brides schedule engagement photos, bridal portraits, a date night, dinner with friends, or another special event after their appointment.
